AN OPPORTUNITY NOT TO BE MISSED

In October 2022, Blanche Dael's Q-graders (internationally certified tasters) Marcel Slangen and Albert Berghof went on a coffee journey to Colombia. Their purpose was twofold: to meet coffee farmers and to participate as jury members in the 7th National Quality Contest, Land Of Diversity.

The winner of this auction was Domingo Torres from Norte de Santander. His coffee, a Geisha variety, was sold for an impressive €176 per kilogram of green coffee. Unfortunately, it was beyond the reach of the average Dutch budget. However, Marcel and Albert managed to acquire the coffee from Alba Lucia Camacho for Blanche Dael. She was the highest-ranking female finalist, whose plantation they had previously visited. Her Cenicafe-Castillo variety secured the 9th position in the competition.

The purchase of Alba Lucia Camacho's coffee was a fortunate opportunity for Blanche Dael, made even more special because Albert and Marcel had met her a few days earlier at her Santa Ana plantation in Gigante, Huila.

Cuppings conducted by Q-graders in Colombia and Maastricht resulted in an average SCA score of 92 points. This is exceptionally high and requires a great deal of expertise from the roaster to fully bring out the coffee's potential. Marcel roasts the coffee with a light to medium profile, resulting in a refined fruitiness of cherries, red berries, ripe plums, and pomelo. This ultimately culminates in the champagne among coffees.
