Rooibos is an infusion and not tea; as it does not come from the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant. The rooibos plant exclusively grows in the Western Cape of South Africa. After harvesting (once every 4 years!), the leaves are laid out in the sun to oxidize, dry, and acquire their red color. The leaves are then crushed, leaving behind small needle-like fragments. Rooibos has a gentle and honey-like character and contains no caffeine and low levels of tannins. Rooibos does contain vitamin C and other antioxidants. These properties also make rooibos highly suitable for enjoying during pregnancy.
The full flavor and soft characteristics of rooibos serve as a great foundation for blends. Blanche Dael has included the most delicious ones in its assortment.
Blanche Dael's rooibos is also available in tea bags.
